Dry Hair: Our Tips to Treat It
Dull, rough hair and split ends: when hair is dry, the first instinct is often to cut it. But that's not the only solution. Here are our tips to bring dry hair back to life.
1. Choose products made for dry hair
This is the most important rule. The health of your hair depends largely on the products you use on it. Without quality products suited to your hair type, the other tips will have little effect.
Opt for products formulated for dry hair, free of silicones and sulfates. Read the ingredient list carefully before you buy. Silicones make hair look smooth, but they end up weighing it down and suffocating it.

2. Use a soft brush
A brush that's too stiff breaks dry hair. Choose a soft brush instead.
3. Do a pre-shampoo treatment
Before shampooing, apply the product to all of your hair and cover it with a thick, warm towel for about 3 minutes. The heat opens the cuticle and helps the product work in depth. Then rinse in the shower.
4. Shampoo less often
Shampooing too often weakens the hair and its cuticle, and gradually dries out your whole head of hair. Professional stylists generally recommend no more than one or two shampoos every three days. Your hair is less fragile and breaks less.
If your roots get oily between washes, use a light dry shampoo.
5. Space out your color appointments
Repeated hair coloring with poor-quality products weakens hair to the point of drying it out. Very sensitive or naturally dry hair is even more vulnerable.
Ideally, space out your color treatments. To cover gray hair, natural or less chemical products are generally better tolerated.
6. Nourish the lengths with oil
Oil is good for dry hair, so apply it generously. Some oils, such as argan oil, restore softness and suppleness without weighing hair down.
If your scalp is oily, apply oil only to the lengths, focusing on the ends.
