The Art of the Curl
Perms for women are back with a keratin-enriched formula by Keune, and perms for men are gaining ground too. Keratin Curl, a low-alkaline formula, strengthens the hair while creating soft, long-lasting curls, in three formulas depending on hair type. Keratin Volume Root Booster adds lasting volume at the roots, without frizz.
The Origin
Where Does the Perm Come From?
The story begins in Germany's Black Forest. As a young shepherd, future hairdresser Karl Nessler noticed that sheep's wool always stays curly, unlike human hair. The idea he drew from it was presented in London in 1906: the first permanent wave. Since then, the technique has become much gentler. A modern perm softens the hair's internal bonds so it can be wound into shape, then closes them again around its new curl.
The right curl is defined during a consultation.
Perms
Frequently asked questions
A perm generally lasts three to six months, depending on hair texture and thickness. Tight curls often last longer than looser waves.
It's best to space perms several months apart to protect the health of your hair. The right timing is determined during a consultation, based on how your hair responded to the previous treatment.
After a perm, it's best to wait a few weeks before coloring your hair, to give it time to rebalance. Your colorist will advise you on the right time based on the condition of your hair.
