The Perfect Line
Japanese straightening transforms the very structure of the hair for a long-lasting straight result. The hair becomes perfectly straight, fluid and glossy, free of both frizz and waves.
The Origin
Where Does Japanese Straightening Come From?
It was developed in Japan in the 1990s by hairstylist Yuko Yamashita, before spreading to salons around the world. It's also known as thermal reconditioning, a name that describes the science well: a solution relaxes the internal bonds that give hair its curly shape, the flat iron reshapes it with heat, then a neutralizer sets this new line.
Permanent straightening is always decided during a consultation.

Frequently asked questions
Japanese straightening is permanent on the treated hair: only the regrowth needs a touch-up, usually every six months to a year.
Yes, you can color your hair after Japanese straightening, with a few precautions. It's best to space the two services several weeks apart and to choose formulas suited to hair whose structure has been transformed. Your colorist will advise you on the right order and timing.
Japanese straightening transforms the internal structure of the hair: the result is perfectly smooth and permanent on the lengths. Tannin smoothing is formaldehyde-free: it softens curls without erasing them, and fades over a few months. One redraws the line; the other softens it.
