Tannin Smooting and Hair Color: Our Advice
Tannin smoothing works very well with hair color, and can even be done in the same appointment. It is suitable for colored, bleached or highlighted hair, as long as a few rules are followed. Here is our advice.
What is tannin smoothing?
Tannin is a natural substance obtained through maceration. It comes from oak, chestnut or grape skins. Free of chemical ingredients, it penetrates the hair to nourish and hydrate it, giving it strength, suppleness, shine and resilience.
Tannin smoothing improves the quality of the hair fiber by up to 80%. It suits all hair types and lasts 4 to 8 months. The Au 2e team was one of the first in Quebec to offer it.
Tannin smoothing and hair color: are they compatible?
Yes. Unlike chemical straightening, tannin smoothing and other natural smoothing treatments can be combined with hair color. A few rules apply, however, depending on the type of straightening and your hair color.
Blond hair: a toner in the same appointment
On blond hair, we strongly recommend a toner or color right after the tannin smoothing, in the same appointment. This prevents brassy, golden tones from appearing.
Chemical straightening: a two-week wait
Permanent color or bleaching is strongly discouraged on the same day as a chemical straightening. A minimum of two weeks between the two is required.
How to care for tannin smoothing
Smoothing lasts longer with regular care. We recommend natural, plant-based shampoos. With the right routine, sea water and pools have less effect on the result.
