What Haircut Is Best for Curly Hair?
To choose the right cut for curly hair, two things matter: your face shape and your hair type. Here are the cuts we recommend for each face shape, and our tips to make the most of your curls.
Two criteria: face shape and hair type
There are four main face shapes: round, square, long and oval. Each has its most flattering cuts. Then comes hair type: fine, thick, straight or curly.
Which cut for your face shape?
Round face
For curly hair, go for a rounded bob or medium-length curls. Keep some length at the nape, with effortlessly tousled curls.
Square face
Naturally full, curly hair looks elegant in a layered medium or long cut. Side-swept bangs soften the face. To soften the features further, you can lighten the lengths by one or two shades.
Long face
Longer and narrower than an oval face, it often has a high forehead and a narrow chin. A layered cut or a medium-length bob suits it well. Curls soften the face, and bangs especially soften the forehead. Darker roots with lighter ends help create a more oval look.
Oval face
With balanced features, an oval face suits every cut: a structured bob, short or long, layered, curly or wavy.
Long or short curly hair: our tips
Long hair
Long curly hair offers endless options: worn down in full cascading curls, or up in a ponytail, half-up bun or bun. Fine braids gathered into a bun look very elegant. Paired with sleek bangs, long, full hair makes a striking statement.
Short and medium-length hair
The more layered the cut, the more volume your hair gains. The ideal compromise is a medium-length A-line bob.
Caring for curly hair
- Have your hair thinned out regularly to lighten it.
- Apply a little coconut or jojoba oil to prevent frizz.
